Discover your Rockport style May 12th inside Dillards’ amazing shoe department at Scottsdale Fashion Square.

Fashion expert Jeannie Mai, from The Style Network and the Today  Show, will be in store from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday for an “Ask the Expert: Discover Your Rockport Style” event, showcasing the latest in hot styles to rock this summer from Rockport Shoes!

I had the pleasure of having Jeannie answer a few of “mai” fashion questions before this weekend’s event. Enjoy the fashion tips from the expert and we’ll see you on Saturday!

Fashion Phoenix: What’s the biggest fashion mistake women make that you see most often?
Jeannie Mai: I often see women wearing clothes that don’t fit properly. I always say “if you don’t have fit, you don’t have fashion.” Even the very best ensemble can look horrendous if it doesn’t show off a woman’s body the way it is meant to be shown.

What’s hot for summer 2012 trends?
This summer’s hot trends list includes apparel and accessories in mints and oranges. Sexy sherbet shades of these colors are by far two of the most popular we are seeing show up the most in handbags, shoes, sandals and even nail color. Thanks to brands like NYX with their new Hot Orange nail color, the trend will be right at your fingertips.

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, what’s your pick for hot jeans for mommie who need help ditching “the mom jeans” look?
Not Your Daughters Jeans has an amazing amount of elastic stretch to feel comfortable wherever you go. Another secret I have always loved is Old Navy jeans. At under $40 a pop, they come in an array of styles that last so long and the fit is so amazing.

What are your styles of Rockport Shoes for summer?
I have to say that the Janae Pump in silver is a “Mai Musty” for sure. It has a fun platform heel which is perfect to dress up daytime meetings. Yet for evening soiree’s it has just the right amount of sparkle, and most importantly, comfort to last you through the night.

I am also really loving the Audry Quarter Strap Sandal in Orange – the shade is flattering on practically every skin tone. And hello… adiPRENE by adidas technology makes it as comfortable as it is fashionable.

Alexander McQueen Fall 2012

Fierce. I will let the fashion do the talking.

Share on TwitterShare on TumblrSubmit to StumbleUponSave on Delicious

Mai fave SAG looks.

I heart Awards season.

Sure, I love all the great films as much as the next girl. But just like the next girl, I am watching for the carpet. It was no Golden Globes, because I wasn’t there, obvy, but I can never resist another excuse to gawk at the fantabulous-fashions of the A-listers. So let’s talk SAGS!

Zoe Saldana

Looks angelic in this stunning white Givenchy gown with this fierce blang blang spiked crystal collar. Glamorous Makeup and a chic up-do completed this red carpet wowser.

Emma Stone

I’m kinda really feeling Emma Stone’s look. Shes taking a risk but the more I look at it the more it wows me. The Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen threads is like Black Swan goes to a dance off at Rydell High but I love it. This bomb-bodice gives an  eye opening exploding lace effect, paired with a hot pair of open toed shoes? Judge Jeannie says Stone is guilty of taking a fashion risk that paid off.

Viola Davis

Ok Miss Thang. You look like an goddess gracing the carpet with your divine presence.  I absolutely love this strapless cream Marchesa number with a gold embroidered bodice. I think it looks amazing against her skin tone and I love the way the dress flows as if she is floating on a cloud down the carpet.

 Angelina Jolie

As per usual, Saint Angelina looks frikken AMAZEBALLS in this dark metallic Jenny Packham dress. Dark, mysterious and demure Angie manages wow yet again. Does this woman EVER look bad?

What do you guys think? Do you agree with mai fave frocks for the SAGS? Tweet or facebook me and LMK.

4 Sites We’re Excited To Shop in 2012

http://www.stylebistro.com/Fashion+Forum/articles/zgMLh0vgf3d/4+Sites+Excited+Shop+2012

By BrokeAndBeautiful on January 17, 2012 | From brokeandbeautiful.com

There are few things I love more than cozying up with pajamas and a blanket – maybe even with a cup of tea or a mocha – and spending the next three to five hours up to my ears in eWindowShopping. Seventeen windows open, six carts on six different websites with totals over $150 (though you intend on purchasing exactly $0 of that), and outfit ideas & design inspiration are flying through your brain and giving you the best daydream fodder…

…that happens to other people, right? I mean, it has to.

Obviously the last few years have given us an metric eff-ton of sites to play around on, and that doesn’t seem to be stopping any time soon. Late last year, I decided to keep a watchful eye on newcomers so that we could maybe get a feel for up-and-coming shops and services that will help keep consumers excited in 2012. We’ve narrowed down to a list of four - but there are definitely more than that out there! Send us your favorite shops and tell us why you love them!

4 Shopping Sites We’re Excited About in 2012

 #1 Fab.com

This is the site that inspired this post, honestly. Fab.com kind of snuck in under the radar, and has slowly, gradually blossomed into this wonderland of independent art, design and… well, everything else! Except fashion, that is. One of the things I (coincidentally) love about Fab.com is that they have absolutely no intention of adding a fashion/sample sale element to their site! The occasional graphic tee, dress, or other clothing-related object might cross your view every once in a while, but this site is geared towards new exposure.

When it comes to accessories, though… Fab.com has some of the most unique jewelry & accouretments from all over the world!  My favorite sale: new & old band posters for under $20!

#2 Opensky

Opensky is the equivalent of a shopping mall where all of the stores are run by high-level, majorly seasoned professionals at the top of their industry. Fashion maniacs like Jeannie Mai and Veronica Webb, eco-fashion warriors like Alicia Silverstone and Mariel Hemingway, and Food World gods like Jacque Torres and Rick Bayless… Oh, and one more person:

Martha Freaking Stewart.

So essentially, when Martha gets obsessed with something, you have the opportunity to be obsessed with it and pretend you guys are best friends, and swap recipes like all the time, and maybe you put a wig on a chair and talk about gardening. Opensky makes it all possible.

Here are my top recommendations, other than the folks I mentioned above, for who to follow (aka “add to your Shopping Team”) on Opensky:

  • Lulu Powers [for home decor, entertaining aids, and serveware]
  • Ming Tsai [he's a legendary chef, so I trust his food and equipment judgement!]
  • Kath Younger [I've been following her blog, Kath Eats Real Food, for years - great healthy & delicious food stuff!]
  • Gabrielle Bernstein [healthy mind, healthy body, healthy spirit - with a few stylish elements thrown in]
  • OrgJunkie [this chick knows everything there is to know about efficient organization!]

#3 Etsy Vintage

As if the Taste Test alone wasn’t reason enough to have a healthy addiction to Etsy, but as the site continues to improve their categorization and search functions, the more their Vintage section seems to benefit. Everything from old photographs to the perfect 60s frock are available at your fingertips.

Thanks to the openness of the Etsy Vintage market, the chances of finding something unique, inexpensive, and exactly to your liking is pretty stinking high. (Plus, now that you can search by price, you don’t have to deal with the “OH MY GOD THAT’S PERF- oh. Shit. Nevermind.” feeling that the lack of a price filter brings.)

#4 Zara

Ohhh, Zara. We all knew that we would become a problem once Zara launched their US website. Everything from high-end silhouettes to super-cheap, well-made basics are available in a well-designed, minimalist website that just sucks you in. I swear, I’ve spent more hours on Zara than I have actually working this year.

I love Zara’s price points, their clothing is spectacular, their accessories are mind-blowing levels of attractive, and their style is [for the most part] timeless. Plus, their sales are under-publicized, but gratuitous, and there’s nothing bette than snagging something unique, chic and versatile for an unbelievable price.

Recession Specials: Gifts for Women From $10 to $500

http://www.thestreet.com/story/11347392/1/recession-specials-gifts-for-women-from-10-to-500.html

By Jerald Leslie:

BOSTON (TheStreet) — Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but fashion expert Jeannie Mai says you don’t have to hock one this holiday season to afford great gifts for the women on your shopping list.

“What I love about fashion today is that the trend has been moving toward cheap, chic designers,” says Mai, host of the Style Network’s How Do I Look? makeover show. “We’re still in (an economic downturn), so people are losing their taste for $1,200 handbags.”

Mai thinks it’s easier to pick gifts for women than for men because males tend to want a very specific make or model of something, whereas she thinks females really do believe it’s the thought that counts.

“If a man wants a piece of electronics, he’s probably spent all of this time researching it and wants a very specific model,” she says. “Girls can be picky, too — but even if someone gets me something that I never wear, I still appreciate the fact that a man went to the women’s department to pick it out. I find that in itself adorable.”

Here’s a look at some great presents that Mai recommends in various price points for all of the women on your gift-giving list this holiday:

Gifts for $25 or less

Mai gives the nod at this price point to so-called “fashion” eyeglasses — non-prescription glasses that you wear for style, not to correct your vision.

“Eyewear is the one accessory that’s faster than lipstick to throw on, yet easy to maintain,” says the expert, who’s nicknamed these products “flasses” (short for “fake eyeglasses”). Available online, at vintage stores or at trendy shops that carry eyewear accessories, these products start at as little as $10 a pair.

But Mai says they offer “instant sophistication and mysterious sex appeal.”

$25-$50 presents

Steve Madden shoe clips cost just $25 or so each, but can customize virtually any pair of women’s shoes.

Mai says these jewelry-like accessories “fit all heels, throw a completely different edge into your everyday shoes and are stackable to create a subtle or striking effect. (They’re the) best accessory item I’ve found for all women — hands down.”

You can find shoe clips on the Web or in many stores.

How To Beat The Winter Blues With Fashion

http://thebeautybean.com/site/lust/4-fashion-tips-from-how-do-i-look-jeannie-mai/ By Alexis Wolfer

Let fashion be your ‘wearapy.’ Sure, sweat pants may be your go-to when you’re feeling low, but are they also contributing to your less-than-stellar mood? Jeannie Mai thinks so! As Jeannie explains, not only can you enhance your own mood with your fashion choices, but also you can affect the mood of the people and the environment around you with the colors and textures of the clothes you wear. So, how do we do this? Heading on a job interview? Wear purple and cream! Purple is the color of energy and royalty while cream implies to your potential employer that they should restart and renew their business and that you’re a good candidate. Getting ready for a date? Soften the mood by wearing velour, cashmere or velvet, for a warm and welcoming vibe, and soft colors like beige, blush and tulip both for your eye makeup and your clothes to set a more engaging atmosphere. Winter weather dragging you down? Deviate from your instinct to wear only blacks, grays and other blah hues, which represent stability, earthiness, comfort and relaxation and instead swamp out some of those boring colors with bright, zesty colors like magenta, violet, teal to boost your mood! Need an idea? Jeannie loves florescent accents mixed in with grey and brown.

Break some fashion rules… not others! While Jeannie Mai is a huge fan of breaking traditional fashion rules, (say yes to wearing black and brown together, mixing patterns and rocking open toed shoes with tights!), she is a stickler for one rule: never wear anything that doesn’t fit with the hopes of looking fashionable. As she says, “if you don’t have fit, you don’t have fashion!” Nothing drags you down more than a way-too-oversized sweater.

The fashion rules you should break!

Add glitz and glam. You may be cocooning yourself in cozy sweaters, warm coats and furry boots, but don’t forget mood-boosting accessorizes too. Jeannie Mai says that glitzy and glittery accessories can instantly lift our spirits, so swap out your boring bobby pin with one embellished with glitter or add a sparkly broach to your jacket or a glittery scarf to your outfit before heading out the door.

Indulge! This holiday season, don’t forget to buy something for yourself too! Whether you splurge on a new pair of oxfords or a piece of chocolate cake, enjoy it and don’t feel guilty! Or do like Jeannie does and swap out one of your snacks with a Yoplait Light so you feel better about dipping into an extra portion of dessert or creamy dip!

Fan Question; The Hair Blues.

You have the Q’s and we have the A’s! I have been getting a lot of inquiries about mai blue locks so I have an exclusive response from the woman that keeps the blue bomb, my amazing colorist and dear friend Moni!

THE Q,

Hi Jeannie!!

I wanted to let you know that your hair is amazing! I’ve always experimented with putting different pops of color in my hair.  I’ve even tried putting a pop of blue in, but the color faded so fast I hardly could keep it past a week!  I really would love to know, how do you keep your blue always looking fresh and beautiful???  Thanks, Irene.

THE A,

Hi Irene, this is Jeannie’s colorist Moni..

The best way to keep your blue from fading so fast depends on the type of shampoo and conditioner you use. I keep Jeannie on the Resistance Line in Kerastase. With all the abuse her hair takes from color and styling the Resistence line keeps her hair in healthy shape. Again, how long your color lasts relys on what type of punky color your using and how light your getting your hair before you put the blue on. We use Jerome Russell and Special Effx on Jeannie. As with all color, fading depends on how often you are washing it.  If you can hold out a few days between washings your color will definitely last longer.  I hope that helps!

Mai tips for Tonita

Tonita loves sports, but her manly attire was starting to put a strain on her marriage—so the How Do I Look? team helped her score a lovely new look. Read on for tips from Jeannie on dealing with similar fashion and beauty issues yourself.

1. If you have an athletic build like Toni and want a more feminine silhouette, look for soft, drapey fabrics like satin or jersey. Not only do they feel comfortable, but they lean out a woman’s shape as well.

2. Softness is all about stance. With Toni spending most of her life on the defense, lookin’ tough took a toll on her posture! To stand at ease, shift your weight to one knee. Hand gently on hip, use pockets if you have them, and get used to using the edge of your fingers rather than palms or fists.

3. Makeup plays a key role in looking more feminine if you’re a tomboy at heart. Play up your blush and lashes. Think peaches and rose hues for the apple of your cheeks and two or three coats of mascara toward the outer corners of your eyes for extra wink effect.

Watch the clips for more of Tonita’s story!
