This article is one of the many reminders of the sisters we have out there suffering we through what reporter Mimi Chakarova calls “the worst human rights abuses known to mankind”.
Please read and not only pray for these women surviving through this today, but also support organizations like “Not For Sale” and “Nightlight Bangkok” to help put this to an end.
Trafficker priced me up
By Mimi Chakarova, Special to CNN
For the past decade, photographer-filmmaker Mimi Chakarova has examined conflict, corruption and the sex trade. Her film “The Price of Sex,” a feature-length documentary made over seven years on trafficking and corruption, premiered in 2011. She was awarded the Nestor Almendros Award for courage in filmmaking at the Human Rights Watch Film Festival in New York. It will air in the U.S. on The Documentary Channel on April 11 at 4.30p.m. ET
She was wearing a polka dot skirt and her favorite pink flip-flops the day she left her village in Albania. Her mom called out her name before she got into her boyfriend’s red Mitsubishi. She didn’t turn to wave goodbye. She was 12 and angry.
Her stepdad has been raping her for as long as she can remember. She couldn’t tell her mom. She knows she’d be sent away. She’d be the one blamed. Girls tempt grown men and bring it on themselves, they’d say. And there was also his drinking that made him do it, they’d add.
Once they were in Italy, her boyfriend changed – he told her she’ll work for him as a prostitute. She thought he was playing some silly joke. She left home to be with him; to one day marry him. He is older. She’s in love.
First week behind the scenes. As you can see, I was a lil excited. Wouldn’t you be?
Hey, lmk what you Jeannie Bugs would want to see and know for next week’s video? I’m here for ya!

‘Fashion Star’: It’s not ‘Runway,’ but will it take off?
Broadcast TV has anointed star singers and survivors. Now it’s in search of a star stitcher.
NBC’s Fashion Star, which makes its premiere Tuesday (9:30 p.m. ET), is a few formats knit into one: American Idol (each week 14 designers face elimination from a trio of industry judges), Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show (the first episode opens with models clad in host Elle Macpherson’s lingerie), game show (the judges — buyers from Macy’s, H&M and Saks Fifth Avenue— enter a bidding war to scoop up contestants’ weekly pieces) and HSN (viewers can purchase the winning apparel after every episode).
One thing Fashion Star is not, the producers and cast insist, is a pumped-up Project Runway, despite the power pop soundtrack, flashing lights and final purse: $6 million in clothes orders.
No I am not excited or anything.
R U READY?
Series Premiere March 13 9:30/8:30c

She may be best known for her fashion interventions as the host of the hit Emmy-nominated television program How Do I Look?, but Jeannie Mai is less about the external makeover that seems to rule the show than she is about empowering women to discover their Real Beauty, rise above their insecurities and use fashion to bolster their self confidence.
We sat down with Jeannie Mai and asked her to weigh in on Real Beauty…
I think beauty is… being selfless.
I feel most beautiful when… I am wearing something that represents my personality.
I deal with the pressure for body “perfection” in the fashion industry by…. completely ignoring them and enjoying delightful ways to indulge (like with Yoplait Light!)
My 3 cannot-live-without-them beauty products are… number one makeup remover, oh my gosh, Noxzema Makeup Removal Wipes are really minty for a super fresh spa-like feel after every wipe and they moisturize. I love false lashes, they’re so flirty and a necessity. And number 3 would have to be a good book – I know that sounds weird – but I feel beautiful when I ingest knowledge-enriching books, like The Five Love Languages – I absolutely love it, everyone should read it to understand their relationships better!
My pre-event routine consists of… playing some fun girl-power music to get me in the mood, packing some healthy snacks to make sure I don’t nosh on unhealthy things and a pair of fold-able flats for sure.
The women I most admire are… Oprah, Ellen Degeneres, and my mom!
If I could give young women a piece of advice, it would be… listen to that tiny knowing voice inside of you and teach it to speak louder – we all have it in us.
My dreams for the future are… to empower every single woman – friend, family or stranger that I pass in my life.
The one lesson I try to remind myself of is… you can’t do it alone.
I wish more women would… see themselves as unique as they are.
I wish I could… have more hours in a day! I get bummed when I have to go to bed.
My favorite body part of mine is… my smile!
I hate my… mind whenever it says I can’t.
The one style tip I swear by is… to break fashion rules.
If I could only keep 3 items in my closet, they would be…a pair of flasses, which are fake glasses, which don’t have a purpose but are so sexy; my fluorescent green tank top and my wedding ring.
I feel most confident when… I can look in the mirror and see myself as gorgeous without anything on.
My celebrity crush is… Ryan Gosling – or actually Dr. Drew all the way!
