UN Recognize. You are preaching to the choir but now maybe EVERYONE will realize. You can’t hold us back.

New York, US – The Executive Director of the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), Ms. Michelle Bachelet, has said sustainable development will not be achieved without empowering women. In a statement she made available to PANA in New York, Ms. Bachelet therefore said the importance of their (women) participation must be reflected in all aspects of the outcome document of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20).

‘We cannot afford to leave women marginalized. This is not sustainable. This social exclusion of women is not only hurting women, it is hurting all of us.

‘The outcome document must highlight women’s roles throughout the entire text, as their participation permeates all aspects of sustainable development, including agriculture, education, environmental management and decision-making, among others.

‘Women’s contribution should not just be as an isolated paragraph in the text but should be mainstreamed in all the aspects of it,’ she said.

The UN official also emphasized actions that world leaders must undertake to fully integrate women into societies so they could contribute and benefit from sustainable development.

No matter what age you are, there’s nothing like hearing words of encouragement from Dad. Here he is giving me feedback & playing publicist:

This one meant so much. Dad never watches the Golden Globes, but he did for me!
This one woke me out of bed. Scared the shit outta me..but dammit he’s right.

I don’t know what I would do without my Dad in mai life. It’s like that grip he hand on my bicycle seat to help me ride never quite let go.
Thank you for being such a wonderful, bright light in my life, Dad! Happiest Father’s Day to you.

Tyra Banks Sets an Example

By ERIC WILSON

Standing in the rain near the site of a new building on Avenue D that will eventually house the Lower Eastside Girls Club, a group of young girls on Tuesday afternoon greeted Tyra Banks by practicing one of her signature moves, the “smize.” As anyone who has watched “America’s Next Top Model” knows, that is smiling with your eyes.

Two of them also showed Ms. Banks a new move, the “smize handshake.” They raised their eyebrows repeatedly while smizing, a move that suggested a lot of confidence, given the presence of the master.

That is the kind of interaction Ms. Banks is hoping will become commonplace in the new building, where, when it opens next year, she will maintain an office. Giving a tour of the building to board members of the organization, she pointed out a glass-walled office on the third floor, which is to be the headquarters of a leadership development center, called the Tyra Banks TZONE at the Lower Eastside Girls Club. (The building will also include a bakery, studio space, a wellness center and a planetarium within its 30,000 square feet.)

At the center, Ms. Banks announced that she is reviving the TZONE concept, which began in 1999 as a series of summer camps to build self-esteem among young girls, with the Lower Eastside Girls Club. Since she completed a Harvard University executive-education program in February, Ms. Banks has been focusing her business plans on ventures aimed at empowering young women and supporting female entrepreneurs.

“My dream was to have a place that was brick and mortar, where they could build on that experience all the time,” she said. “The real impact is to have consistency, as opposed to an excursion.”

By working out of the center, Ms. Banks, who has also been vocal about broadening the perception of beauty within the fashion and modeling industries, hopes to lead by example. In addition to working directly with the girls and young women who use the center, she will be doing her routine work among them.

“What I don’t want to be is Tyra, the ‘celebrity girl,’ coming here and the girls being excited when they see me,” she said. “I want them to be numb to me. I can do normal work here and they can see me, to know that this is what a business is. It’s not about living on a red carpet. I am a businesswoman who goes to work every single day.”

LOVE when people take their skill and turn it into something CREATIVE and UNIQUE to serve people. Here’s how Jason Lee made his craft bless not only his grandmother, but now me as his new fan as well.

Let’s pray for his grandmother’s health together, and until then enjoy his work!

Happy humpday homie!
I wanted to share with you this cutsie interview I did with mai friends over at Running on Happiness.
Interview with Jeannie Mai
I have an absolute girl crush on Jeannie Mai.  And I’ll tell you why.  You may know her best as the digital correspondent for NBC’s “Fashion Star”, and host of Style Network’s, “How Do I Look“.  But Jeannie actually started her career making celebrities like Jennifer Aniston and Sarah Jessica Parker beautiful as a professional makeup artist.  Not only is she an expert on style and beauty, but she spends her time empowering women through her work with non-profit organizations such as Dress for Success and Seven Bar.
I had the great privilege of listening to Jeannie speak at Lucky FABB, and was instantly inspired by her story and fearless attitude when it comes to not only fashion, but life.
This Saturday, May 12th, Jeannie will be at Scottsdale Fashion Square with Rockport at Dillards in the women’s shoe department, answering your style questions from 1-4.   If you are in the area, definitely stop by!  It should be a great event.
Lucky for me, I had the opportunity to pick her brain before.
