My interview with Sarah Jaggard

I was recently approached by a talented sista named Sarah Jaggard to be interviewed, and was so honored because of what I know about her. Besides being gorgeous, she’s beyond brillz, sensationally smart, quick, and just one of those gung ho girls where you can’t help but get excited about what’s gonna happen next just standing beside her.  So you can imagine how thrilled I felt to answer her questions (and great questions btw! Never really got asked how I got started, and it’s so important of my life story.) So I wanted to share this blog from the gorgeous talented Sarah Jaggard and her site- SarahJaggard.blogspot.com.

Thanks for taking the time Sarah, and do let us know of where we can find you next empowering somebody else!

Me, Gaga, and Mai Today Show Appearance.

I just arrived back from NYC to film this segment-posting here for all who missed. It’s always so much fun teaching women ways to work their wardrobe. My fave part of this was having our special guest Nicole back from this week’s episode of How Do I Look. Not only did she look Un. Be.LiEvAbly hot, but she was just so happy. So different from the woman I first met on our show. (See video to the right on blog homepage) I was elated to see her glow from feeling so gorgeous within. And um…watch her in this clip as she helps me help her get these looks on!

Thank you all for watching! Thank you Camilla and Tim for helping me pull this off together. Thank you Style, the always lovely Lindsay, and Dom for being the absolute host to make sure I had everything I need- esp rest. Thank you Nightlight Jewelry and LAS. Oh, and of course..my Gaga-licious sighting? Ok, there I was on Delta airlines red eye to NY, and in she comes to sit in my row, in a strait up red zip up velour tracksuit with a super million watt bedazzled jacket that could have lit up the city itself. No, this outfit was not cute, but as we all know Gaga makes it work like no other. She had full drag makeup on with lashes longer than mine (and if anyone knows me they know I put RuPaul to shame with my falsies.) Long story short, at the end of our flight I didn’t know if I should have even done this since it’s like 5 AM and nobody feels like talking- but I said, “Lady G, I just have to tell you thanks. Thank you for empowering young people with creativity and a message of love… And girl, I haven’t see velour like that since Hugh Hef and Britney’s bridal shower but wow u make it work.”  She died and gave me a hug with thanks. I love Gaga, man.

K I’m off to bed now for an Extra day tomorrow ! Heart you guys !~

The JEANNIE MAI way to have a Happy Birthday

By counting my blessings:

#31. I have friends who will actually go to the trouble each year to get me a wheat-free bday cake I can eat. God bless u babes!!

#30. My job is to make people feel fan-freakin-tastic about who they are. I get to do it whether I’m working or not.

#29. I really love the lil things I don’t love about my bod. It gets me creative about how to dress them all up, otherwise I’d just be wearing Victoria Secret wings all day.

#28. I love everyday so much I actually get sad when it’s bedtime.  Since I was freaking 4.

#27. 6 months ago I placed a GodBox on the top of Runyon Canyon. A few days later, somebody removed it and FACEBOOKED ME “People shouldn’t have the right to pray.” This year, 2010, on New Year’s Day, my GodBox SHOWED UP AGAIN out of nowhere at the top of Runyon Canyon. Ha. Faith never fails.

#26. Being a girl is so much fun!!! And I love how my gays remind me this.

#25. When I was younger, I remember being asked what secret powers I could wish to have. But to this day I’ve always had the ability to see anybody’s most beautiful potential. Anybody.

#24. I love how God gives you specific situations to remind me exactly where I need to grow . He’s a sneaky one.

#23. I wrote a story years ago about how my mom did one thing to change my perspective about my unique-ness for the rest of my life. I submitted it into a school paper, and it was denied because the editor thought it encouraged rebellion. Fast fwd 20 years later and Chicken Soup for the Soul not only approached me to share a story about Mom, but loved it and is printing it in this year’s edition for Moms. I’ll blog when book is out, and yay for Mom.

#22.I had the best upbringing in the entire world. The more I didn’t have, the more creative I got.

#21. I’ll never forget a summer job I had working at TGIFriday’s. I learned a) how to serve people. b) how to make blinking crap hot on suspenders.

#20. I love other people’s birthdays more than my own. I have no prob remembering why I was born, but I find other people do and I’m really good with that.

#19. I’m UB-sessed with fro yo. I swear I used to dream of getting behind that counter and pumping that ish myself. God bless LA…where Asians obviously feel there isn’t enough around.

#18. I LOVE bouncy butts. I certainly don’t have the best one, and I’m ok with that because I get my fix thru everyone else’s.

#17. Even tho we can talk anywhere- there’s a special place I head everyday just to get my mind rocked with all He’s got to say called Runyon Canyon. And He’s a great conversationalist. He rambles on my way up, then it’s my turn down :)

#16. I have no idea if I’ll ever be pregnant, but I love that I know it’ll be entertaining.

#15. I can teach anyone how to feel sexy.

#14. I’m surrounded in an industry of people who’s job is to make people feel good. It’s unexplainable to be around this vision everyday.

#13. I’m so blessed with my phone camera that catches what forever looks like.

#12. This past year I hosted at an event called Catalyst that took my faith to a whole new level of understanding. Like meeting Nick Vujicic, who reminded me how every single person was made perfect.

#11. Everybody’s busy. And everyone could be doing something for somebody else. But when people like Betty Pettit takes the time to remember every single person’s birthday and bakes a wheat free pie to ensure this new girl at Extra doesn’t get forgotten, I’m blessed.

#10. I love how smiles look better with age.

#9. I was raised with F.O.B mentality. Fresh off the boat are peeps who came here from another country and don’t really care about fitting in. Which explains what’s up with pj’s in public, horrific smelling Asian grocery stores, and bad driving. And why on this gorgeous summer day my family went on the best bike riding day in flip flops and children’s bicycles.

#8. I love that I thought this was cute.

#7. I have nieces and nephews who know exactly what it means to Jeannie-jazz a picture.

#6. I love those people who think of you out of nowhere- and act on it.

#5. Good Food.

#4. My mom is “Don’t” who will damn well “Do”.

#3. I feel like my birthday is everyday. Seriously.

#2. The man who put a ring on me shows me what “I Do” means every single day.

#1. From Facebook friends and fans I’ve never met who take the time to post me, to every talented person I’ve worked with to bring creative projects together, to friends who celebrate life every time we’re together, to family who puts up with me and helps me become better– THANK YOU ALL  for another beautiful birthday.

Faith Hill isn’t just beautiful..

She’s sweet as can be. Recently sat with Faith Hill to talk about her new “scent” on life, love, and her dream if she wasn’t a performer. She’s drop dead gorggge in person-it’s not even funny. I liked how during the preparation of the interview she was so appreciative of my crew as they miced her, lit her, and offered her perfume for all of their wives. Humility is hot.

A quick bite with Megan Fox

Just a little clip with Megan at her premiere. She’s actually a rather witty girl. God I wanted to run a steamer down her dress. Never wear satin on the red carpet!

3 days till Today show segment–(9:30 AM Tues, Nov 3rd) Tonight is HALLOWEEN in NYC!

The countdown to Halloween.Haha, thanks to Ruthy for letting me “bow borrow”.

I don’t know what more to be excited about right now. Do you know where I’m headed? To New York City…on Halloween night. {Insert shriek!} Months ago I wrote a segment called”Wearapy”, how clothing can create OR deflate your each and every mood. After the wonderful help of my family at Style Network, and my power producers at How Do I Look, I’m headed to NY to bring Wearapy to life LIVE on Tuesday, Nov 3rd at 9:30 AM. (Go! Set the DVR!! I can wait.) See..THIS is why I DO count my blessings. Everyday. Starting off with #1:

Flying first class on my fave nightclub in the sky, Virgin Air.

2) stoked that I just inked a manager I’m very proud to call my own

3) that I managed to have the Halloween spirit and get a lil “ghouly girl” today with my smoky liner at 7Am this morn for my flight

4) that I’m going to my fave city NY ON HALLOWEEN (did I mention that?)

4) that I will be attending the annual one and only Chocolate Fair that is the biggest and baddest delicious delight ever to enter the US

5) that in between I’m also going to be doing jobs for Extra featuring new digs from YSL, and showing behind the scene styles with friends like Joe Zee, Creative director of Elle Mag

6) that I’m proud to say I LOVE deskside visits and will be seeing all the pretty powerhouse ladies at my fave mags to brainstorm some beautiful ideas

7) that I’m so happy to feel alive and healthy admist all the fall flu going around. :( Get well out there!)

This is the bestest week ever!  I’m going to countdown each day till Tuesday and share so much with you. I’m going to use my new Blackberry Tour camera to of course include you in as much as possible! Ok..before you do anything else..can we please sync our DVR’s at the same time? This Tues, Nov 3rd…9:30 AM, Today Show, Me with Natalie Morales. Don’t forget!! Ready, set…GO!

The most specialist thank you to everybody at Style Network and How Do I Look for taking such great care of me in this trip. I’ve been working everyday on camera these last few weeks, so without the help of these organized brains I would be stepping onto a plain to Egypt. Thank you all for taking my Wearapy idea and making it top notch for Today! Special wishes to Ashely to GET BETTER HON!

Happy Halloween everybody~!

Whoa. I can make The Ultimate Iron Chef “drop out”- in his very own kitchen?

The Dacascos Iron Chef champion family

Yes. His wife Julie and I both can. But not for good reasons. Ha!

Seriously. There’s a bigger star in the house besides Iron Chef Chairman Mark. With a marriage of 12 years, 3 adorable Hapa kids,  maintaining a life with a wildly successful martial arts husband with hit shows like Iron Chef, DWTS, on screen action with hot stars like Lucy Liu and Kelly Hu, this wonderful wife Julie is truly the sizzle behind the scenes.

I absolutely love when I meet great people..but when I meet two of em who love each other and are each other’s bff’s, I’m floored. Mark Dacascos and his, um–look above, gorgeous wife Julie are just that. With a focus of what really matters to keep a marriage strong, Julie keeps her eyes on the prize of her family thru her passionate encouragement and support for her man’s talents, knowing fully well what they’ve really got goin on at home. And Mark doesn’t forget it. This confidence with his beautiful bride has him running back to be home after his hours, days, sometimes months away from home. It was so encouraging to me as a newby wifey myself on how to keep my own man as happy as my life with work–confidence and communication baby!

Anyway, here’s a fun clip of Julie and I tearing into Mark with his biggest pet peeve..being talked to while he’s trying to complete his daily set of 100 pull ups off his chin up bar in his freaking kitchen. Us girls are great at gabbin ;)

Feeling weightless with Ali from The Biggest Loser…and my Switchflops

Sexy in Switchflops Yesterday I met the beautiful, and might I add, sexy skinny Ali- biggest winner of last season’s Biggest Loser on the actual set of the show. No really, the biggest thing on this new svelte star was her huge smile. She looks like a person who is really happy with herself. It’s that self made glow! When I jumped on the show’s infamous scale with her I felt like we were shooting and had both won because her energy was so infectious. Yano why else I was overjoyed in excitement?  Miss Lindsay Phillips and her dreamy footloose Switchflop flats that I’m wearing here. No, really–these things are saving my life right now in between all these lengthy shoots I run back to back in. After standing for hours in haute heels, not only do my feet go scurrying for these comfy kicks, but only Switchflops keep me struttin in my own sassy style with their snappy styles I can switch and change. Lu-Uv! (Doesn’t hurt that I heart the designer, Lindsay herself who is too stinkin cute!)  Anyway,  do tune in to me on How Do I Look on Style Network or Extra TV to see more of my fave fashions. MWA guys!

Me and Biggest Loser -Ali the WInner!
