Discover your Rockport style May 12th inside Dillards’ amazing shoe department at Scottsdale Fashion Square.

Fashion expert Jeannie Mai, from The Style Network and the Today  Show, will be in store from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday for an “Ask the Expert: Discover Your Rockport Style” event, showcasing the latest in hot styles to rock this summer from Rockport Shoes!

I had the pleasure of having Jeannie answer a few of “mai” fashion questions before this weekend’s event. Enjoy the fashion tips from the expert and we’ll see you on Saturday!

Fashion Phoenix: What’s the biggest fashion mistake women make that you see most often?
Jeannie Mai: I often see women wearing clothes that don’t fit properly. I always say “if you don’t have fit, you don’t have fashion.” Even the very best ensemble can look horrendous if it doesn’t show off a woman’s body the way it is meant to be shown.

What’s hot for summer 2012 trends?
This summer’s hot trends list includes apparel and accessories in mints and oranges. Sexy sherbet shades of these colors are by far two of the most popular we are seeing show up the most in handbags, shoes, sandals and even nail color. Thanks to brands like NYX with their new Hot Orange nail color, the trend will be right at your fingertips.

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, what’s your pick for hot jeans for mommie who need help ditching “the mom jeans” look?
Not Your Daughters Jeans has an amazing amount of elastic stretch to feel comfortable wherever you go. Another secret I have always loved is Old Navy jeans. At under $40 a pop, they come in an array of styles that last so long and the fit is so amazing.

What are your styles of Rockport Shoes for summer?
I have to say that the Janae Pump in silver is a “Mai Musty” for sure. It has a fun platform heel which is perfect to dress up daytime meetings. Yet for evening soiree’s it has just the right amount of sparkle, and most importantly, comfort to last you through the night.

I am also really loving the Audry Quarter Strap Sandal in Orange – the shade is flattering on practically every skin tone. And hello… adiPRENE by adidas technology makes it as comfortable as it is fashionable.

Guess Who’s Goin to the Kentucky Derby?

And the style stakes are up!

Because your very own Jeannie Mai is going to be in Luh-ville, Kentucky for this year’s Kentucky Derby! That means you better be following mai fan page on Facebook , Twitter  and Instagram. Not only will I be reporting the fashion on NBC, I will also be posting everything worth seeing online for YOU.

This also means of course, that I’ve got to get a hat! I can’t even tell you B.U.G.’s how excited I am to pick out just the right one for each of my outfits. I plan on wearing two hats specifically that you’ll be seeing, and one is currently being brought to life as we speak. When I envisioned a piece that would be unique and celebratory of the Derby, I knew I had to call upon my exquisitely talented designer friend, Emiliano Moreno. Emiliano has made many exclusive garments for me on my show “How Do I Look  to special events, like my speaking engagement for the Maria Shriver Women’s conference.

I also just got special news. Emiliano has shared with me a glimpse of the piece he’ll be creating for me. Here’s a preview of it’s before pic:

I want to come up with a name for Emiliano’s creation when it’s done. (I love naming special pieces of mai wardrobe.) From the look and color of it so far, can you help me?

Jeannie Mai Talks Fashion Star, True Style and Sure Success

http://www.mystyle.com/mystyle/a/maistyle-qa-jeannie-mai-on-her-fashion/9024

Tue., Mar. 13, 2012 2:00 PM PDT by Anita Little

Our own Jeannie Mai is counting down to the premiere of Fashion Star, NBC’s new competition series that gives viewers the chance to follow the journey of fashion designers as they make their stylish dreams come true. We chatted with Jeannie about her work as Digital Correspondent for the show…

Fashion Star premieres tonight! Are you stoked?
I’m very excited to have all my friends from How Do I Look? follow along this other dimension of fashion and really be involved. Gone are the days when you have to fly to New York, Paris or London to see runway-worthy styles up close; now you get to be a part of the action. I can’t wait to start this journey!

Tell us about the show.
The world has never seen a reality competition like this before. Not only are you seeing renowned names like Nicole Richie and Jessica Simpson guide these designers, you’re also seeing dreams come true for the lucky contestants. Instead of just having one winner at the end, a number of designers are highlighted and placed into stores and into the lives of many women. That’s pretty big. You have a connection to the success, you feel like you helped to make it happen.

Just Ask Jeannie : Naomi Asare

Hi Jeannie, am Naomi Asare, an African from Ghana. Am a 22yrs old girl and i have a beauty problem with my skin. I’ve gotten a lot of scarlike bruses on my legs due to child play injuries when i was young and its really made my legs unactractive in skirts and dresses.

Jeannie please i really need your help to get rid of them and to complete my gorgeous hour-glass figure of size ten. I look forward to ur advice. Thanks much.

Naomi, hello to everyone in Africa! I can so relate with you- I used to skateboard as a little girl, and now I have total scars on my legs as well. But I’m sure you can also see from my show “How Do I Look?” that it doesn’t stop me at all from wearing fun skirts and shorts! That said, my secret is bronzing moisturizer. I use any rich moisturizing cream that has a glowy, sheen effect to it because moisturized, tan legs really help deflect any attention drawn to scars. You can also take a tip from our royal princess of fashion, Kate Middleton, by opting for a pair of nude pantyhose to wear beneath your fashionable options. Either way, whatevs makes you feel comfortable, know that there’s only one Naomi Asare- and make sure everyone knows it :)

Do you have questions for the fashion Jeannie? Ask me your Q’s and I will provide you my A’s.

Hit me with your best shot on twitter or facebook.

Jeannie Mai: On Real Beauty

http://thebeautybean.com/site/real-beauty/jeannie-mai-on-real-beauty/

She may be best known for her fashion interventions as the host of the hit Emmy-nominated television program How Do I Look?, but Jeannie Mai is less about the external makeover that seems to rule the show than she is about empowering women to discover their Real Beauty, rise above their insecurities and use fashion to bolster their self confidence.

We sat down with Jeannie Mai and asked her to weigh in on Real Beauty

I think beauty is… being selfless.

I feel most beautiful when… I am wearing something that represents my personality.

I deal with the pressure for body “perfection” in the fashion industry by…. completely ignoring them and enjoying delightful ways to indulge (like with Yoplait Light!)

My 3 cannot-live-without-them beauty products are… number one makeup remover, oh my gosh, Noxzema Makeup Removal Wipes are really minty for a super fresh spa-like feel after every wipe and they moisturize. I love false lashes, they’re so flirty and a necessity. And number 3 would have to be a good book – I know that sounds weird – but I feel beautiful when I ingest knowledge-enriching books, like The Five Love Languages – I absolutely love it, everyone should read it to understand their relationships better!

My pre-event routine consists of… playing some fun girl-power music to get me in the mood, packing some healthy snacks to make sure I don’t nosh on unhealthy things and a pair of fold-able flats for sure.

The women I most admire are… Oprah, Ellen Degeneres, and my mom!

If I could give young women a piece of advice, it would be… listen to that tiny knowing voice inside of you and teach it to speak louder – we all have it in us.

My dreams for the future are… to empower every single woman – friend, family or stranger that I pass in my life.

The one lesson I try to remind myself of is… you can’t do it alone.

I wish more women would… see themselves as unique as they are.

I wish I could… have more hours in a day! I get bummed when I have to go to bed.

My favorite body part of mine is… my smile!

I hate my… mind whenever it says I can’t.

The one style tip I swear by is… to break fashion rules.

If I could only keep 3 items in my closet, they would be…a pair of flasses, which are fake glasses, which don’t have a purpose but are so sexy; my fluorescent green tank top and my wedding ring.

I feel most confident when… I can look in the mirror and see myself as gorgeous without anything on.

My celebrity crush is… Ryan Gosling – or actually Dr. Drew all the way!

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH FASHION EXPERT JEANNIE MAI

 From Megadiversities.com

Jeannie Mai (born January 4, 1980) wears many hats. She is an American makeup artist, fashion expert, actress and TV personality. The eldest of three children, Mrs. Mai and her two younger brothers grew up in San Jose, California. She is the daughter of an immigrant father from Vietnam and mother from China. She identifies herself as an afro-mexicasian because she grew up on the east side of San Jose where all her friends were African-Americans, Hispanics and Asians. She once declared to the media that she feels at home whenever she is around these ethnicities. Besides English, she speaks Vietnamese. In her early life, Mrs. Mai was a member of a family of 16 living under the same roof. It included her extended family (aunts, uncles…). This experience helped to shape her and to learn about the gift of sharing. It also allowed her to develop communication skills, an invaluable asset for a future career. Mrs. Mai has a sparkling, spunky and feisty personality. Mrs. Mai began to entertain people around her at an early age using her mother’s makeup to prepare herself before pretending to interview her family members. Later, at age 18 she launched her career as a makeup artist for MAC Cosmetics while still living in San Jose. As a trainee, she worked her way up from face to face until she was eventually traveling the world to do make up work with a roster of celebrity clients such as Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys and Rosario Dawson. Mrs. Mai also worked with other prominent people such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Aniston. She has served as a celebrity makeup stylist for MTV, TRL, KCL Los Angeles, and Good Morning Sacramento.

In 2003, Mai began auditioning for local television networks with self-written scripts to demonstrate her unique hosting talents. She landed a gig co-hosting the Emmy-nominated Asian American Magazine-Style show “Stir,” on International Channel Networks. Not long after, the San Francisco local music channel, CMC, invited her to be the first female VJ to host her own music countdown. After attracting attention for her energetic personality and knack for style, Mai became an entertainment reporter and producer of the WB’s “Daily Mixx.” In 2005, Mai got her first prime time hosting role on “Character Fantasy” on the USA Network where she inspired guests each week to live their fantasies. Soon after, she appeared on MTV’s “Granted” alongside Frankie Muniz and hosted various segments related to fashion and entertainment news on networks such as E!, Lifetime, TLC, and NBC.  Read more here…
