A special message from Heartbeat Vietnam to YOU for spreading the word!

Facebook friends, this message was emailed to me within 2 days of my video posting from Mimi Vu, my passionate contact from HBVN. I had to share this with you all because YOU are what’s getting us closer and closer to winning this 100k.

Please read, and click here to jump in and donate. Remember, it doesn’t matter how much, just that you take part every day you can until November 6th, when the contest ends. Thank you everybody…it’s hard to believe we’re saving lives thru one click.

Thank you so much for promoting HBVN on your site and offering the dinner/makeover as a prize! You are so generous! I wondered what was going on when I woke up this morning and saw that a bunch of people had joined and donated overnight.  I watched your video and it made me tear up to feel your passion and love for these kids even though you’re far away. We still have a lot of work to do, but your generosity, enthusiasm, and support has made it easier :) Would it be ok with you if I posted your video on the HBVN cause page and on our website?

We just had one of the most emotionally exhausting weeks here at HBVN. Dr. Erle Austin, a world-famous heart surgeon from Kentucky, volunteered his time and came to Saigon for about a week to do some complicated heart operations that the Vietnamese surgeons weren’t able to do, as well as conduct some medical trainings. It was wonderful to have him here, especially for the surgeries, but the down side was that he was only here for a week. He only had enough time and equipment/medicines to do three of the operations. That in itself was amazing as three of the poorest and cutest kids you will ever come across got a second chance at life. But we also had to tell six other families with complicated heart cases that their children couldn’t receive surgery, that we tried as hard as we could but we just couldn’t save their children. It was heartbreaking and devastating, knowing that these kids would die because we just weren’t able to help them. A completely depressing experience that I hope I never, ever have to repeat. It’s times like these that are difficult in my line of work, because you feel completely helpless. But watching your video and getting those donations from your friends was so uplifting. The support from complete strangers who have no connection to Vietnam and who are giving because of the kindness in their hearts (ok and maybe to get a chance at a makeover from you ;) is so inspiring. It totally buoyed me and strengthened my resolve to keep trudging along, because if we all work together like this, the day will come soon that we never have to tell a parent that his or her kid is going to die needlessly.
Thank you so much for all of your support–you and your friends are beyond awesome!

Love Mimi Vu

Guess who’s the new girl??

Me–at Extra TV!!

Eeek! my first day!

Can you believe?? Yours truly will be sharing the stage alongside that darling dimplez Mario Lopez and getting you all the glamourous news you need to know to all things Hollywood and more. I wanted to keep the announcement of this exciting news until we had something we’d get to watch, and THIS SAT airs our first weekend piece. Wow, right? I watched this show since I was a lil girl,  so I’m still tapdancing in air over this tremendous opportunity, and thank you guys for tuning in!!

The best part is, my first day was so sweet. Seriously more than you could expect from a fast paced leading legend of an entertainment news show where you’d think people have a million and one things more going on than to worry if the “new girl” is ok. But the truth was everyone I met couldn’t have been more welcoming and fun. I guess I hafta wait till I mess up :)

So do set the DVR for Sat at 3 PM and Sun at 12:35 AM, and M-F 7PM in between. :)

The yummy Delicious Ross the Intern MAthEwS

I already like boys. But I LOVE the yummy ones that are good enough to eat…as u can see with my mouth wide open here on his blog. Ha, delicious! Check out our flashy freeze frames, great mouths think alike. That’s what she said!

But Ross puts a whole new flavor to his name. Smarter than Perot, cuter than Gellar from Friends, and much more expensive than the store. I had the haute honor of shooting with him today for his show Inside Dish airing tomorrow at the time he says on this video here. BUT don’t lose sleep over waiting for Ross tomorrow cuz you get to see his sassy self on Chelsea Lately tonight!! D-d-d- DVR folks!!

Heart you Ross!! Everyone drive safely out there for the pretty powder blue vespa and honk if it’s Ross!!

$tyle Sneak Peak: 1 Look-3 Ways airing on Daily 10 on E!

I’ve always been a natural frugal fashionista. I believe you have fashion when u spend on the name, but you have style when you spend on being creative. I was blessed to understand style by growing up with humble surroundings and having a mom who taught me how to think outta the boring box to stand out. How to swap buttons on an old shirt to make it fly again, how to make “spanx” before they were even invented with the extras of control top hose. Today everyone is strapped for cash, but that doesn’t mean u at ALL need to be strapped on style. Wow. I just said “strapped” and “on”.

Tired ol tank

Moving along. Here is a sneak peek at what you’ll be seeing airing on the D10. How to shop in your OWN closet to revamp things already owned. I cannot tell u how much you probably already own in ur stash right now that can be revamped just with a few key pieces!!! Por ejemple:

Here Jessica’s rocking a basic tank. Yawwwn..boring for such a fabulously gorgeous girl. So here’s where with a few key pieces, we were able to go from now to WOW.

Look #1 First Date Diva

First Date Diva JM Must- Transform this long top into a tucked tank!
Sometimes we forget tops can take on a whole new look with just a quik tuck. Add a solid vest to play off the plaid and bring focus to the embellishments down the center.

Look #2 Meet the Parents

Meet the Parents

JM Must- Studies have shown that warm colors create an inviting, welcoming mood. Find a bright, warm, tank (this one has ruffles) and layer it beneath for a friendly flair. And respect those parents- avoid looking too revealing! Here in the chest, I created a V shaped angle by unbuttoning the outer top to layer the ruffles, creating a flattering shape and distracting from too much skin.

Look #3 Glrz Nite Out

Grlz Nite Out

JM Must- Turn this casual everyday top into an nightime knockout by pairing with a sharp blazer and focusing on accessories. Pile on necklaces, chains, mix the metals! Well fitted skinnies, peeptoe pumps, some quick BBM’s (blackberry messengers) and you’re out for the eve!

There you have your sneak peak! Set your DVR to 8/18, 8/25, and 9/8 for more :)

Mai Musts–Click’n Kicks

There are certain things besides Fergie’s lyrics that are “200-late”: following the FDA’s food pyramid of consuming 6-11 bread servings a day, having thick acrylic nails, and wearing Ugg boots in 90 degree weather- with jeans. (Stop it LA!) But for the last year I’ve been so ahead of mai time with this new discovery that I’ve decided to completely put it on blast after hearing myself raving about em yet again today.

Shoelaces.

Tying em, tripping over em, frustrating kids with the loopholes of learning em (thanks Drew!)… I’m over em altogether!! Know why? Cuz…heh heh, I’ve discovered the absolute SHIZ of sneakers that will leave you clicking your heelz for more.

BOA Lacing System …on Northface shoes. Brillz all the way. We’re talkin a literal genius lacing system in which you can pop your foot in and out of a well laced shoe in seconds because of an adorable lil contraption inconspicuously tucked in the back to provide quik click lacing.

  • Boa® multi-adjust lacing system. This system helps the shoe become more reliable and responsive while eliminating pressure points through even distribution. Made for 19-strand aircraft-grade steel, Boa® is impervious to the elements because it can’t freeze or soak like regular shoelaces making it perfect for all-weather conditions and the ultimate in durability. Loosening and adjusting is easier than ever with Boa®’s quick release mechanism.

Think security at airports, getting the kids outta the house, removing your shoes to get into your apartment AGAIN after remembering you forgot your blackberry halfway down the street.

Ugh. If only BOA could hold my B-berry, too.

Bootylicious Backside

Full frontal :)

Ciara’s got 2 new goodies..

and they’re named Julia Allison and Jeannie :P   I attended an Express Jeans Event where Ciara was hosting and had such a fabu time meeting the most darling divas. Gams, I mean, gals like my fellow host,  gorgeous tall gulp of Southern sweet tea Ashlan Gorse, the radiant (new, and I LOVE IT) Red Writer Julia Allison, and my left and right hooks Steven Grossman and Melissa Berger..who dangit, chose to be camera shy with me that night. Anyway, I just want to be the first of many to say that at first I was down with just one-two step, but after meeting Ciara personally and seeing how amazingly SWEET and genuinely beautiful she is, I’m a die hard fan fo life.

All we need now is a flagpole.

Ba Knows Best

jeannie_ba

My beautiful Ba Noi (grandmother) passed away yesterday. And I’m so happy because thank God she is now out of the pain she was in! My Ba Noi would totally be the type to get first dibs on everything in heaven because she was such a charming doll of a woman. I still remember picking her up from SF airport—she was so fragile and gorgeous. Have you ever met somebody who smiled with such a shy coy quality that everything they did was just enchanting? Ok, well besides Belle, Ariel, and Pocahontas. My bestest memory of her was when we’d sit together in the kitchen and she’d make me thit nhun (dipped meat). It was seriously my first experience of ever being served the Viet way of getting fed peeled grapes. She would hand slice, piece by piece fresh rare steak, paper thin onto a plate for me to pick up with my chopsticks, dip into boiling water to cook, then into nuoc mam with tons of garlic. And she’d just stand there…after every dip, to see if I wanted more. And the best, the best part…was watching her give me the best. If she sliced a piece that was even a hair too thick, she wouldn’t let me eat it and would slice another till it was just right. Then all those thick pieces? Saran wrapped em up for my grandfather’s lunch. Ha. Love you Ba Noi…say hi to Him up there for me :)
