Guess Who’s Goin to the Kentucky Derby?

And the style stakes are up!

Because your very own Jeannie Mai is going to be in Luh-ville, Kentucky for this year’s Kentucky Derby! That means you better be following mai fan page on Facebook , Twitter  and Instagram. Not only will I be reporting the fashion on NBC, I will also be posting everything worth seeing online for YOU.

This also means of course, that I’ve got to get a hat! I can’t even tell you B.U.G.’s how excited I am to pick out just the right one for each of my outfits. I plan on wearing two hats specifically that you’ll be seeing, and one is currently being brought to life as we speak. When I envisioned a piece that would be unique and celebratory of the Derby, I knew I had to call upon my exquisitely talented designer friend, Emiliano Moreno. Emiliano has made many exclusive garments for me on my show “How Do I Look  to special events, like my speaking engagement for the Maria Shriver Women’s conference.

I also just got special news. Emiliano has shared with me a glimpse of the piece he’ll be creating for me. Here’s a preview of it’s before pic:

I want to come up with a name for Emiliano’s creation when it’s done. (I love naming special pieces of mai wardrobe.) From the look and color of it so far, can you help me?

Our own Jeannie Mai is counting down to the premiere of Fashion Star, NBC’s new competition series that gives viewers the chance to follow the journey of fashion designers as they make their stylish dreams come true. We chatted with Jeannie about her work as Digital Correspondent for the show…

Fashion Star premieres tonight! Are you stoked?
I’m very excited to have all my friends from How Do I Look? follow along this other dimension of fashion and really be involved. Gone are the days when you have to fly to New York, Paris or London to see runway-worthy styles up close; now you get to be a part of the action. I can’t wait to start this journey!

Tell us about the show.
The world has never seen a reality competition like this before. Not only are you seeing renowned names like Nicole Richie and Jessica Simpson guide these designers, you’re also seeing dreams come true for the lucky contestants. Instead of just having one winner at the end, a number of designers are highlighted and placed into stores and into the lives of many women. That’s pretty big. You have a connection to the success, you feel like you helped to make it happen.

Hello my people. It’s been just over a week since one of the most magnificent nights of my life, AKA the Golden Globes.

I know you are wondering what I thought of some of the red hot looks on the red hot carpet, so I wanted to Share with you MAI personal best dressed and wtf list’s, courtesy of The Style Network!

Great minds think alike! Angelina Jolie and Natalie Portman both took to the Golden Globes red carpet in gowns with red swipes, but the Atelier Versace and Lanvin dresses, respectively, left critics torn. Should the hot mamas both be on the best dressed or worst lists?

Leave it to Style’s own Jeannie Mai to know exactly where she stands on each ensemble. The How Do I Look? host wanted to hug one but kick the other. Hi,

Words can not express enough of gratitude to share with you. I am very pleased with the show. You took a glance at me and saw that I had true potential to be better myself. You utilized your talents and abilities to create and develop an episode of your show which featured me for who I really was. I am and will be forever grateful. Having the opportunity to be real before the world has made me into a better person and will only lead to a better future for me. You made it happen and so often, it is people like you, who go without being thanked or even given any credit. I am so glad that God blessed you with your talents and abilities to help make the world a better place by giving to people. Your giving goes so much deeper than monetary value or fame, it actually creates a window of opportunity for women to be bold and courageous, face life head on, and experience the extraordinary moments in life. It is these moments that help shape and define our life and make us into beautiful women. Mai tips for Tonita

Tonita loves sports, but her manly attire was starting to put a strain on her marriage—so the How Do I Look? team helped her score a lovely new look. Read on for tips from Jeannie on dealing with similar fashion and beauty issues yourself.

1. If you have an athletic build like Toni and want a more feminine silhouette, look for soft, drapey fabrics like satin or jersey. Not only do they feel comfortable, but they lean out a woman’s shape as well.

2. Softness is all about stance. With Toni spending most of her life on the defense, lookin’ tough took a toll on her posture! To stand at ease, shift your weight to one knee. Hand gently on hip, use pockets if you have them, and get used to using the edge of your fingers rather than palms or fists.

3. Makeup plays a key role in looking more feminine if you’re a tomboy at heart. Play up your blush and lashes. Think peaches and rose hues for the apple of your cheeks and two or three coats of mascara toward the outer corners of your eyes for extra wink effect.

I Heart Sydney, Australia!!!

Ok mates. It’s been a few days that I’ve been here in Sydney, Australia, and I’m just dying over this beautiful place. I’ve had “chips” (fries) with sour cream and sweet chili, more Tim Tams than I can handle, and check out my new friends I just made!!

SO here’s the deal. For the first time evah (how you Aussie’s say it), How Do I Look  is shooting it’s first episode in Sydney. Oh yes..we’ve found ourselves a lil star from Bronte. I can’t tell you too much till the episode airs, but what I will share is a quote from this lil fiesty fashion victim herself.

“Born in Bronte, Live in Bronte!”

Hmm…I doubt that’s true. Otherwise locals to Bronte must not own mirrors.

Sigh….nonetheless this headstrong hottie obviously isn’t seeing her worth thru her wardrobe. So off we go to fight this fashion crime! If you’re out and about in Sydney, do visit us friday for the reveal live!
