Hair and Makeup Tips for Prom

Prom may be over but these hair and makeup tips can be used at any occasion to glam up and rock out. That being said, picking your dress, hair, makeup and overall style for prom should not be taken lightly. And that’s why I helped Perez Hilton on his fashion website www.cocoperez.com give the 411 on this year’s prom trends for hair and makeup.

Huge thanks to Jessica Simpson for the dresses, and Gareth Bromell and Uzmee Krakovszki for hair and makeup.

As featured in Icon Mag – Josh Williams Photography

This was a shoot I had to share just because it’s… um..amazeballs. I’ve never seen myself look like this! Trust me, it’s the magician photography work of Josh Williams, then makeup, hair and styling from Norma Blaque (hair), Uzmee K. (makeup), and Bory Tan and William Moore. Special thanks to Avon and the dynamic designs of Emiliano Moreno.

I love photo shoots like this because you totally get to play pretend and play it up for the cameras. And I love shooting with Josh Williams because he has this awesome way of making women just melt in front of the camera! Don’t u luv how I play up this dramatic “damsel -in-distress-from-another-era?” Fine. The dramatic part wasn’t really pretend. But in all honesty, I think it’s ESSENTIAL for women to have a photo shoot done at least once a year. It’s so healthy to play dress up and have a fantasy side of you brought up. The pictures will encourage you as you see a stylized side of you, and you’ll have so much more respect for models because it’s HARD to land a pose! Anyway, whaddya guys think of this spread? Show some luv to this amazing team if you like!

(Here’s a link to magazine. Spread begins on page 90: http://www.theiconmag.com/magazine/issue/spring-2011/)

Sometimes It’s Good To Be “TooFaced”

Here it is, my ultimate fave face makeup. The one stroke that gives me a California glow, instant chisel in the cheeks, and a sweet kiss to start my day from makeup guru Jerrod Blandino himself. Lucky me.

The magic to Mai look..the Pretty Posse

**Updates to this season’s Pretty Posse with fashionistas Kayla McGee and Jocelyn Garrity–stay tuned for bios :)

A few nights ago I took out my Pretty Posse-my talented group of hair, makeup, and wardrobe all wrapped into colorful bodies of fun, sparkling energy. These guys take my personal style and help me refresh and invigorate it into different versions of me. Because I have such exciting opportunities to dress up, I really do love to ask the famous four words to my show, “How Do I Look?” I believe style is a confident perspective of your identity, and celebrating it with the people who love you.

That said, I just had to take this wonderful group out for a magical night..to the one and only Magic Castle here in Hollywood, CA! Not only do these guys lend their talents to spoiling me, but they also get into fun events like this to the special people around us. Every outfit you see on my show starts from a moment of inspiration, with dabs and touches from each department until we create a full look that caters to the specific segment of the show. It’s brillz just making the fun lil doll of design come to life until I can put “her” on! Here’s to Norma Blaque and Hope Zarro, my hair fairies who always made sure each of my strands were sensationally sassy. Craig Beaglehole and Bonni Flowers, my makeup stars who know exactly how to light and lift my smiling face up camera perfect for any shot.  Hollie, Megan, and Ashley, for being such dolls in helping me every way I could need. And Bory Tan, my long time love,  for playing dress up with me each and every time- and helping me to make it become a reality for those who deserve that Cinderella moment around us.

Also, my most proudest CONGRATS to my Norma Blaque, for being honored “Latino Star” from BE Magazine at the ISSE show in Long Beach, CA! Thatta girl!!!

Here are some fun pics from the night, special thanks to Erin and Andrea for making our visit even more spectacular. Also some fave wardrobe changes we’ve done on my show. Enjoy!

A few of my FAVE must haves:

Ardell Lashes in #114 (stacked with more drag lashes for a smashing effect.)

MAC Carbon with #266 Brush (camera power pop to eyeliner.)

Mason Pierson Brush (gets volume to any hair, ANY hair!)

Asset spanks from Target (oh yea..they’re faves for a girl in any size. AND they hold ur phone when no one’s watching ;)

Karen Millen anything.

Bashing on Kristen Bell-somebody had to do it.

Bad Fashion..bad!

Here’s the thing–I wrote it strictly because I KNOW Bell could be lookin better. But trust me..we all have our days when we thought “haute”, but really it was out. Ok, but I hate calling out someone else when I ain’t perfect either. So here’s one of my own Shams to even out the score:

Even Jeannie Mai does a "Don't"

I mean, right? Here’s me like 6 years ago on one of my first hosting gigs for a show called Stir on KTSF in the bay. Note my wrinkled satin Bebe top, my clash of accessories, and somebody remind me not to flat iron my own hair. Thanks.

So back to Bell– what do YOU think of my write up for Fashion Police?

Guest Popo Jeannie Mai Says…

Not sure if Kristen Bell was inspired by the sea behind her to bring this coral-reef-like pattern to life, but between the bland color of her 3.1 Phillip Lim frock and washed-out makeup it looks like she’d rather be anywhere else but here at the exciting premiere of her movie Couples Retreat. K.B.: This is one look you should let sail out of your life forever!

Fashion expert Jeannie hosts the makeover show How Do I Look? on the Style Network. Watch it Sundays at 9 p.m.!

Kim Kardashian kisses n tells..in a glossy way to give back.

This week I sat with Kim to cover the her exciting new involvement with Fusion Beauty’s new lipgloss, a line of lip plumping glosses that obviously work extremely well for the gorgeous girl. My fave part about this lineup is the “Kiss Away Poverty” Campaign, in which $1 from every sale of Infatuation and Lipfusion glosses goes towards Seven Bar Foundation to help end poverty among women!! It was awesome talking with Kim’s passion over makeup with her artist Troy Jensen and sharing her fave beauty secret. So here’s the scoop– try it out! (MAC’s Vanilla Pigment totally gets the job done right, too )  Do get out there  to Sephora and check out the line –Sugar Rush is my personal fave!
