Fashion Mob Is Coming to Style

Fashion Mob

What do you get when you bring hundreds of style-challenged women together to compete for the transformation of a lifetime? A Fashion Mob!

Celeb hairstylist Ken Paves, How Do I Look? host Jeannie Mai and supermodel Selita Ebanks are looking for eight lucky women out of hundreds of hopefuls to receive the new look they desperately desire. This ultimate fantasy makeover event, hosted by TV star and style icon Cat Deeley, is coming to Style as a one-hour special premiering Monday, May 28, at 8/7c.

All the action takes place during one day, from the selection process and makeover consultation to the big reveal.

As hundreds of women stand in line, hoping they’ll be chosen, Deeley listens to their style horror stories, checks out their shocking fashion faux-pas and even offers quick tips via her mobile makeover cart. Each woman must ultimately plead her case to Paves, Mai and Ebanks, who will determine the final list of participants. ??From a college student who dresses like a 40-year-old to a cancer survivor who wants to look like herself again, the chosen women undergo a radical transformation to bring out and enhance their own beauty—and some may have to step way too far out of their comfort zones.

LA X LA: Jeannie Mai, Style Expert

Meet Jeannie Mai, a celebrity makeup artist & stylist, fashion expert, actress, and TV personality (a.k.a. a total minx!).  You probably recognize this fashionista as the host of Style Network’s “How Do I Look?”. As a fashion expert, she is frequently featured on numerous TV shows including NBC’s Today Show on the “Fashion Tips Today” segment, Extra TV, and E!’s The Daily 10. Most recently, Mai joined the cast of NBC’s super-successful new show Fashion Star.

Jeannie Mai Talks Fashion Star, True Style and Sure Success

http://www.mystyle.com/mystyle/a/maistyle-qa-jeannie-mai-on-her-fashion/9024

Tue., Mar. 13, 2012 2:00 PM PDT by Anita Little

Our own Jeannie Mai is counting down to the premiere of Fashion Star, NBC’s new competition series that gives viewers the chance to follow the journey of fashion designers as they make their stylish dreams come true. We chatted with Jeannie about her work as Digital Correspondent for the show…

Fashion Star premieres tonight! Are you stoked?
I’m very excited to have all my friends from How Do I Look? follow along this other dimension of fashion and really be involved. Gone are the days when you have to fly to New York, Paris or London to see runway-worthy styles up close; now you get to be a part of the action. I can’t wait to start this journey!

Tell us about the show.
The world has never seen a reality competition like this before. Not only are you seeing renowned names like Nicole Richie and Jessica Simpson guide these designers, you’re also seeing dreams come true for the lucky contestants. Instead of just having one winner at the end, a number of designers are highlighted and placed into stores and into the lives of many women. That’s pretty big. You have a connection to the success, you feel like you helped to make it happen.

HDIL Aussie Q n A!

When the Style channel’s fashion expert Jeannie Mai visited Sydney last year she swept into town with such enthusiasm, it was positively infectious.
The purpose of her visit was to give a complete style makeover to a stylistically challenged Australian woman, and tonight, we get to see the results of that in the Australian premiere episode, to screen Thursday, February 16th at 7.30pm AEDT, only on StyleJeannie scoured the country tracking down said style-challenged lady – they chose Bridget, a Bronte-based mother-of-two, obsessed with the 80s (and not in an ironic, fancy dress kinda way) – who was in desperate need of a fashion overhaul by Jeannie and her team of experts (they even managed to convince her that it’s time to say farewell to the unflattering fluorescents and tasteless tights – impressive feat.

Sharing some Sophie Love

First off I have to thank you Jeannie Bugs for writing, posting, tweeting, emailing the most amazing questions and letters to me. THANK YOU so much. And I don’t mean just for watching How Do I Look or seeing what I’m wearing next, but for being so powerful in your own ways to encourage one another and recognizing how special you each are.

I got this letter this Sunday and it just hit me like a Cupid’s arrow that I had to share. I love when Style spreads love.

Thanks Sophie.
“Our daughter, Sophie, loves your show How Do I Look.  Every Monday, she would watch your show before brushing her teeth and going to bed.  When I ask her what theme she wanted for her birthday, she said a “Jeannie Mai” theme; not Barbie or Hello Kitty, Jeannie Mai.

The funniest thing was, as I was getting ready to go to work, Sophie looked at what I was wearing and said, “Mom, what would Jeannie say?”

Anyway, my daughter is teaching me to appreciate being a girl and making sure I take care of those things that I didn’t care about before, fashion and hair.  She and I are bonding over your show, so thank you for that.  As you can see, she wanted to make sure her best pink jacket matched her socks…

Sincerely,
Roe Narvarte”

I couldn’t help but to respond like asap.

Chatting it up in Tastetable Magazine

Hi friends, ck out mai interview in Tastetable Magazine. I obvy heart chatting the trends, topics and travels and if you heart listening to it then you will love this interview.

JEANNIE MAI REDEFINES TASTE

T: Jeannie, when someone asks what you do for a living, what do you say?
JM: I say I’m a television personality, slash ambassador for Girl Power.
You’ve been quite busy over the last year. What are some of things on which you’ve been working?
T: You’ve been quite busy over the last year. What are some of things on which you’ve been working?
JM: Between shooting the 12th season of How Do I Look and adding a special episode in Australia, I’ve joined the ranks of Yoplait and Avon to encourage women to express their individuality and stay healthy at the same time. I shot what I think will be the best fashion reality show ever called Fashion Star for NBC starring Elle Macpherson, Nicole Richie, Jessica Simpson, and John Varvatos, right before flying out to Sao Paolo, Brazil to co-host Miss Universe. Between appearing on segments for the Today Show, The Doctor’s, and Nate Berkus, I wrapped the life changing series of Biggest Loser as the stylist for makeover week, meanwhile taking makeovers to a whole new level with Ellen Rakieten of Oprah, Ken Paves and Cat Deeley with her new pilot, then slid in a holiday special for Style Network starring myself and my adorable hubby, airing this Dec 11 if you’re able to catch it!
T: How was Brazil?
JM: Brazil was amazeballs! How can one country be that over populated by gorgeous women??? But the best thing about Brazil was the people. Everywhere I went I was completely swept off my feet from the hospitality and warmth of loving, proud Brazilians. It was truly an unforgettable experience.
T: How did you start hosting your show?
JM: I’ve been a familiar face on Style Network for many shows and appearances before HDIL. It was just perfect timing that the show decided to evolve and I was brought into place.
T: Like a lot of new show hosts, you probably did not expect it to last as long as it has. What do you think has fueled its longevity?
JM: Although “How Do I Look” has lasted a great time, it still uncovers something we need to learn more about: self worth. Many guests on my show just don’t understand how worthy they are to dress the way they deserve. Therefore they find themselves struggling in relationships and losing more self confidence by the second. HDIL not only reinforces these women on how to see themselves differently, but I take them through a tough, yet very real experience to get them to see what they can do to change their lives immediately.
T: Where do you see lifestyle television going, especially when you see the changes in television versus online broadcasts, as well as scores of new programs across networks?
JM: To be honest, makeover shows are not going to go anywhere because every single person could use a makeover. Secondly, We are obsessed with makeovers, we are constantly wanting to see what can become bigger, better and more beautiful. The only thing I do see possibly changing is that viewers are watching more thing online than onscreen, so we will probably see more programming streaming their shows online.
T: Do you have any designers that you believe we should keep our eye on?
JM: I have been lovin’ the fierce jewelry from Ben Amun, like these incredible Metal Spike Earrings on opensky.com. I also really am feeling Willow & Clay. They make super cute yet chic clothes that you can wear day or night! Luckily, You don’t have to search for the designers I love, because I bring them straight to you! If you go to opensky.com/jeanniemai you can get these fab items all in one place at a discount because you are friends with me!
T: We’ve noticed you like to make a statement with shoes. Is there a style philosophy behind that?
JM: I believe that shoes shouldn’t make you want to walk; they should make you want to strut! Therefore all of the shoes I wear describe my personality, the direction I’m heading and can hold the entire outfit on their own.
T: Any favorite foods (or drinks)?
JM: Mai fave foods are anything that have unique combos or twists, for examples a peanut butter sandwich with bacon or lemongrass inside of ice cream, I love how artistic chefs can get by fueling foods together in interesting ways we never tired. I also have a little gritty part of me that’s obsessed with tripe, tendons or pig ears. I think it’s the Asian in me. I say I’m like Andrew Zimmer. Except that it has to be cooked and that I’m a tad better dressed.
T: Is style a way of branding oneself?
JM: Style is absolutely a way of branding yourself, its been proven that people take 3 seconds or less to judge you based on your appearance. With that being said the colors, style and manner I which you present yourself will complexly deliver a message to the people who see you, you just want to make sure that message is what you meant to say.
T: What do you recommend to others building a brand?
JM: When it comes to branding yourself, first simply it by thinking about the three most unique traits about your personality and lifestyle that sets you apart form everyone else. Next figure out a trademark line, which would describe you in one sentence to anyone that asks. Begin to style yourself in the right colors and textures that makes your brand clear.
T: Is there a brand Jeannie Mai?
JM: The brand Jeannie Mai says. Fashionista, Foodiva, Wearapist. “Where my style and heart bring you full flavor.”
T: So what’s next?
JM: What I would like to do next is to teach wearapy across the world. Wearapy is my theory that clothing can enhance your mood in situations in your life. Through me women will learn the power how they can empower themselves and their life situations all in one look.

Jeannie Mai Channels Old Hollywood Glam at the Golden Globes

http://www.mystyle.com/mystyle/b8522_jeannie_mai_channels_old_hollywood_glam.html

Isn’t she lovely? Our very own Jeannie Mai fits right in with Tinseltown’s A-list on the Golden Globes red carpet in her stunning custom red satin gown by Italian couture designer Ines Di Santo. The How Do I Look? host couldn’t resist going Old Hollywood glam, and styled her famously blue-streaked, jet-black locks into retro, long curls.

The fashion expert sparkled like the stars with glittering jewels and box clutch. She’s even got the pose down!

Make sure you watch your girl as she hosts The Golden Globes Pre-Show on NBC. The gorgeous gal, along with Carson Daly and Natalie Morales, will be chatting with the nominees and presenters. And keep coming back to mystyle.com as we break down the night’s biggest fashion and beauty trends!

Season Finale of How Do I Look? in Australia tonight!!!!

I dunno if it’s bcuz I know our special How Do I Look (link) Australia
episode is airing, or if hanging out with Elle MacPherson at the TCA triggered it, but I miss Australia.
